Change your furnace filterIf you didn’t change your filter at the end of summer, do it now before you turn on your furnace for the season. Changing your furnace filter regularly is an important maintenance task that can help keep your system running efficiently and improve the air quality in your home.
Turning on your furnace
Over the summer you may have had a malfunction or break with your heating equipment. If you smell gas when you turn it on, leave the area immediately. Do not use your phone, electric switches, your computer or anything that could cause a spark. Go directly to a safe location on foot, and then call CenterPoint Energy and 911.
Learn about payment assistance
Historically, the use of natural gas goes up in the winter which could increase your bill. Take time to
learn about payment assistance – you or someone you know may be eligible.
Seal leaks around windows and doors
Drafts caused by gaps around windows and doors can impact your heating costs. Take some time this year to seal cracks and gaps with caulk or weatherstripping.
